＜CHINKIN COLLECTION＞
The Chinkin Collection is made up of fountain pens which use “Chinkin (Gold Inlay)”, one of lacquer ware techniques that Japan boasts to the world on a par with Maki-e. Motifs are carved into the lacquered surface with special chisels,and after inlaying lacquer in the grooves, placing gold leaves and gold powder gives the pattern expression.
The delicate and fine depiction and three-dimensional aspect overflowing with a strong power of expression are the special characteristics of this collection.
Since Chinkin is a carving technique, there is no room for mistakes. Every single carve is a true challenge in the sense of the word.
＜about Namiki＞
Founded in 1918 as Namiki Seisakusho (currently a pilot), it begins manufacturing and selling fountain pens. After that, in partnership with dunhill, it entered the European market under the “Dunhill Namiki” brand.
The outstanding technology of the lacquer fountain pen was highly evaluated because it was exported to (Cannot be sold to EU and EEA countries) and the United States.
＜Chinkin Technique＞
The Chinkin technique, along with the Maki-e technique, is one of Japan’s world-class lacquer techniques. A pattern is carved on the lacquer surface with a special chisel, lacquer is added after the carving, and the color is placed with gold leaf or gold powder to express the pattern. It is characterized by its precise and delicate depiction and its three-dimensional and powerful expressiveness.
By expressing the texture of bird feathers and the facial expression of the pattern more realistically, it has an expressive power that surpasses that of Maki-e, and is a technique that represents lacquer art.
Since Chinkin is a carving technique, failure is not tolerated, and each carving is a serious game.
