    More information about the items:
    SISAL BELLS:  Women
across Africa hand weave baskets to carry a wide variety of objects.  Kamba women of central Kenya make these bells
for sale mostly to tourists but they are also used by ceremonial dance groups
with individual dancers holding at least one bell.  They are made from hand-twisted sisal and
manufactured wool thread which is widely available and used in Africa for
    weaving clothing accessories.
    WHISTLES:  Hand
carved by men of the Kamba people of central Kenya.  The business of making wood carvings for sale
to tourists began in Africa with native animal carvings in the 1950’s.  These whistles sound very similar to those
    carried by English police officers.
    UKO BELTS:
Woven together with handmade natural fibers, the seeds of the
    sapodilla
    tree add background
percussion in many dance ceremonies.  The
    uko’
s can be belts, anklets, armlets or hand held clusters.  These were made in Nigeria.
KAYAMBA (the Kiswahili name):  These musical instruments are hand made by
tribespeople along the Kenyan coast.  The
materials are wood, reeds and stones.
    CLANGER/DRUM:
These are used for percussion among many different musical and dance
groups.  Made from goatskin, wood, string
and pvc pipe.  The goatskin is remains
from the many goats killed daily for food in Kenya.
MANYANGA (the Kiswahili name):  Made from tree branches not used for charcoal
fires, scavenged bottle caps, wire and, if available, calabash gourds by men of
    central Kenya.
SHAKARAK (probably a permutation of “shaker”).  Used in a variety of musical events.  Made from calabash gourd, string, and local
    seeds. Ghana
